The Under the Sea Number Sense Activity Pack will keep your little learner engaged and learning with their new under the sea friends.
Number sense, mathematical awareness, and the ability to associate numbers to their abstract is so important for building a solid mathematical foundation. This fun Under the Sea themed math activity pack works to enhance numerous math skills.
The Under the Sea Number Sense Activity Pack includes:
- Sea Creatures Counting Mats
- Number Sense Clip Cards
- Under the Sea Number Sense Matching Mat
- Sea Creatures Addition Mat
Specific skills developed throughout activity pack:
- Number Recognition
- Identifying numbers that belong to groups of pictures
- Representing Numbers
- Representing numbers in different ways including numerals and pictures
- Determining Quantity
- Counting to compare or determine quantities
Sea Creatures Counting Mats
There are two ways to complete this activity, and both are included for you. Either have your learner choose from a pool of sea creatures and place the appropriate number on the mat.
Or, your learner may find the sea creature that already has the appropriate number for any particular mat.
For instance, in the second option there are 5 dolphins included. Your learner can either decide to use 5 dolphins to complete that mat, or another creature that has 5 or more. This means that unless the creatures are mixed, the shark, jellyfish, starfish, and swordfish can’t be used for the number 5 mat.
Whatever you choose, just make sure it’s fun and engaging!
Number Sense Sea Clip Cards
Similar to the matching mat, this activity allows your learner to further develop their number recognition skills, and their ability to count to determine quantities.
Instruct your learner to use clothespins to clip the number that matches the amount of sea creatures present.
Under the Sea Number Sense Matching Mat
Instruct your learner to help their sea friends find their corresponding numbers. They must draw a line from the group of sea creatures to the appropriate number.
Being able to connect the numbers to their abstract representation is a indicator of their mathematical awareness and number sense ability.
Sea Creatures Addition Mat
This activity will take your learner’s mathematical skills one step further. Using their number sense, your learner will need to find two factors that are equal to the amount of sea creatures present.
