Description
Ideal Age: Preschool/Kindergarten 2.5 – 6 years
Instructions:
- Begin with the first train piece and instruct your learner to complete the alphabet and number sequences. Or practice name recognition with the alphabet pieces.
- Instruct your preschooler to use the pieces to spell their name to encourage letter recognition.
- Instruct your learner to complete number combinations by asking them to build a train with a particular number sequence. With this version of the activity, your learner doesn’t even need to be able to understand place value or the value of the numbers. Those are concepts that can be practiced later if right now your learner is still becoming familiar with numbers and their names. This version of the activity helps to increase number recognition and receptive language skills.
- Work on phonological awareness by saying the sounds of each letter as you complete the activity.
Pro Tip!
- Take the activity to the next level by practicing spelling different words and sight words. Don’t forget to print extra letters. Read about teaching sight word recognition here!
