- About their different tastes: sour, sweet, spicy, fresh, etc.
- Talk about the different colours.
- Go to the store and look at the different varieties of fruits and vegetables.
There are so many ways to manipulate the use of these cards! Whatever you choose, just make sure its fun and engaging!
Includes 40 individual flash cards
Seriating Fruity Fun
During play, children go through the process of mentally organizing objects and things all time. As facilitators in their play, sometimes we help by giving them predetermined categories. But sometimes, they create their own.
This activity increases the learner’s ability to organize objects in order along a continuum – also known as seriating. In this case, have them order the fruits and veggies in groups of small, medium, and large.
Includes seriating sheet, and fruits and vegetables in 3 different sizes
Classify & Sort
You will also often see children sorting objects and classifying them based on different categories.
For instance while pretending playing, a child may decide he wants to wash all the vegetables, while his friends washes all the fruits. This is an example of classifying and sorting, and its an important skill to be learned for later math success.
The classify and sort fruit and vegetable activity gives you and the learner the opportunity to decide what category you are sorting the fruits and vegetables by. Be creative! Try sorting by colour, taste, beginning sound, or even texture!
This activity is versatile in the sense that it can be completed anywhere, in class, or on the go. Just simply organize the pieces in different ziplock bags and folders, and use when ready. But as an extension, I suggest using real fruits and vegetables and real grocery bags. How cool is that?! You can even make a fruit salad afterwards!
Includes classify and sort sheet to be used with fruits and vegetables cards from Seriating Fruity Fun activity.
Shape Match Cards
Simple, yet fun!
Just as the name suggests, have your learner match the cards based on their shape. You can place one half of the cards in a sensory bin, the dramatic centre, or around the house or class.
Instruct the learners to match the cards together using the shape (or any other characteristic) as their guide.
Roll & Graph Fruits & Veggies
This activity is perfect for the learner who is ready from more complex number representations.
Assemble the dice. Each time a specific fruit or vegetable is rolled, graph it on the roll & graph sheet.
There are many extensions that can be made with this activity. Start by making predictions about which fruit will appear the most. Let the learner lead, and continue a dialogue from there.
Grocery Shopping!
Time to go shopping! Do you remember when you were younger how much you loved playing pretend ‘store’ or ‘house’?? Me and my sisters loved pretending to go shopping and either buying groceries or clothes for our babies and dressing them up.
My children have carried on that trend, and I can bet you know some learners who enjoy this as well.
Place a number on the grocery bag, and have the learner ‘shop’ by placing the correct amount of fruits or veggies in the grocery bag.
Use the fruit and vegetable pieces from Seriating Fruity Fun. Numbers up to 20 are included to be used as the learner progresses in ability.
Pro Tip!
If at home, make learning engaging by placing the cards in the kitchen, and have the child find them! Keep safety in mind when placing the cards
Or set up a dramatic grocery store at home or in class and use this activity as an extension.
Number Pin Cards
This number pin fruits and vegetables activity increases hand eye coordination, one -to-one correspondence, and number sense at the same time!
Simply count the the fruits and vegetables and instruct the learner to clip a clothespin on the number that matches the amount pictured on the card.
If clothespins are unavailable, have the children colour the answer, or use bingo dabbers.
Includes 10 individual cards
Number Puzzles
Number puzzles will further increase the learner’s number sense, and ability to count forward. These cards are beginner level and progress from 1 – 5.
The puzzles are self correcting as the sequence is dependent on the proper order of the picture. Perfect for those who are just learning, or require just a little extra support.
Includes 12 individual puzzles
Fruits & Vegetables Mini Book
To encourage lifelong learners and readers, literacy should be included in as many activities as possible and in classroom or home set-ups. The fruits and vegetables mini book complements the bundle.
Includes 2 individual books; My Fruits Book and My Vegetable Book
I Spy Fruits & Vegetables Sheet
Use the flashcards with this activity, and have fun finding the fruits and vegetables!
Pattern Cards
In this activity, the learner will increase their patterning skills, specifically, their ability to use knowledge to predict what comes next.
Instruct the learner to find the last tile that completes the pattern.
Pro Tip! Attach Velcro pieces to the pattern tiles and pattern cards for easy application.
Includes 9 individual pattern cards, and 19 individual tile pieces.
Vegetable Seeds
Have you ever eaten vegetables that you planted and grew in a garden yourself? How rewarding was that? This is a fun activity that gives your learners the chance to package vegetable seeds!
Assemble the vegetable packages and have the children ‘pack’ them with seeds. Use real seeds, beans, buttons, or even jelly beans!
Pro Tip! As an extension plant real vegetable seeds at home or in class, watch them grow, and enjoy them when they’re ready!
Includes 9 vegetable packages
Fruits & Vegetable Wheels
Use this activity to reinforce all the skills practiced throughout the bundle, or as a complement to other activities.
For instance, the fruit wheel can be used to determine which fruit to find on the I Spy sheet.
Includes 4 individual wheels; 1 fruit wheel, 1 vegetable wheel, 1 red wheel, 1 green wheel.
