How to engage with this activity:
Not only are the cards colourful and inviting, but they also increase in difficulty to challenge your learner.
Cards 1a – d illustrate a clear difference between the elves
Cards 2a – d illustrate a difference in colour:
This set is a little more challenging because the elves are the same, and the only difference is their colour.
Cards 3a – d illustrate a difference in direction:
Now these little elves are playing tricks on us! In set 3, your learner is looking for a difference in direction.
Depending on your learner, it may be difficult for them to express their thoughts. Prompt them with questions:
- “Are all the elves the same colour?”
- “Can you tell if all the elves are looking the same way?”
Cards 4a – d: Illustrate a difference in both direction and colour
At first it may seem that it is easier to tell the difference in these elves. But your learner will actually have to identify two different characteristics to correctly identify all differences.
These little elves are different in both colour and direction.
This activity will help to improve your learner’s comparison abilities while encouraging descriptive and expressive language.
